Choosing the right party dress and night-out makeup
is hard enough when you have cocktail parties filling your calendar by
the second. But don't worry, I've got you covered when it comes to what
sexy hairstyles to wear. There, now you can cross one thing off of your
to-do list.
1. Beyoncé's sexy side-swept braid.
To get a side-braid similar to Bey's that's fancier than your usual easy style.
2. Taylor Swift's tucked under bun with bangs.
Copy Taylor's AMA awards style by putting your hair into a low
ponytail, securing it with an elastic band, rolling your pony under and
up to meet the nape of your neck, and then pinning it into place with
bobby pins.
3. Jordin Sparks' sleek ponytail braid.
Score Miss Sparks' style by pulling your hair into a slicked-back ponytail.
Take a sliver of hair from underneath and braid it into a small braid,
then wrap it around the hair tie securing your ponytail. Finish up by
braiding the rest of your ponytail and keeping it in place with an
elastic band toward your ends.
4. Nicole Richie's center-parted halo braid.
To recreate this updo, leave the front section of your hair out of
the style. Starting three inches back from your hairline, braid two
separate sections of hair on each side — one smaller, one bigger. Next,
wrap the braids closest to your hairline (the smaller one) around the
back between the crown of your head and the nape of your neck, and wrap
the larger braids around the back of your head and over the top of your
hair, giving you that milkmaid effect. Pin the ends of the smaller
braids at the nape of your neck and the larger ones at the top of your
head — make sure to tuck the ends in too, so that they don't stick out.
5. Julianne Hough's swept updo.
Copy Julianne's stunning look by curling all of your hair and then
sweeping it into a side pontytail. Next, wrap a sliver of hair from the
pony around the elastic that's securing the style to conceal it, and
then randomly pull up and pin pieces of hair from the ponytail into the
side of your head, giving it that perfectly-undone effect.
6. Kerry Washington's partly-pulled back boho style.
Kerry's style is not only gorgeous, it's super-easy. First, center part your hair and create a subtle wave all over, using this tutorial
as a guide. Then, take two small sections of hair, coming off of your
part, and lightly twist them toward the back of your head. Secure the
sections when they meet at the crown of your head with bobby pins in an
"X" formation to keep the style from unraveling.
7. Miley's glamorous 'do.
To copy Miley's style, first part your hair in line with the arch in
your right eyebrow — the hair to the left of your part should have some
body at the root if you don't normally part it there. Next, curl your
hair all over, so that a) it becomes shorter and b) it has this old
Hollywood glamour effect when you pin it up. Then, pull back the hair on
the right side of your head and secure it using a bejeweled hair comb
like this one.
If you have shorter hair, your last step is to spray the look with
hairspray, but if you have longer hair, this is when you fake a faux
bob, tucking your hair under itself at the nape of your neck and bobby
pinning it in place.
8. Jennifer Lawrence's bejeweled bun.
To get J. Law's bejeweled bun, pull your hair into a low ponytail and
secure it with an elastic band. Next, take your favorite long necklace,
tuck it into the hair tie, and begin braiding it in as you braid your
ponytail. Finally, tug at the braid gently pulling it apart ever so
slightly to make it textured and thicker-looking, and then wrap it into a
bun and bobby pin it into place.
9. Malin Ackerman's perfectly undone side-braid.
Mirror Malin's gorgeous style by parting your hair over your left
temple and pulling your hair over your right shoulder. Then, begin to
fishtail braid it until you reach the ends. Not sure how to fishtail
braid?
10. Kristen Stewart's side-swept style.
To get K-Stew's exact side-swept style.
11. Kourtney Kardashian's bangin' top knot.
Who doesn't love a high bun? To copy Kourtney's chic top knot,
whether you have bangs or not, pull your hair back into a high ponytail
(using a boar bristle brush to smooth out any bumps), secure it with a
hair elastic, and then wrap your hair around the elastic band tightly to
build your bun. Finally, keep it in place with bobby pins.
12. Diane Kruger's sleek, center-parted chignon.
Diane's style is stunning, chic, and easy to recreate. Just part your
hair down the center, smooth the two sides back with some smoothing
serum like this one, and wrap your hair into a neat bun at the nape of your neck, securing it in place with bobby pins.
13. Jennifer Hudson's slicked-back, polished pixie.
If you have shorn sides and a longer strip of hair down the center of
your head, like Jennifer does, slick your hair back with a quarter-size
amount of styling gel, which will provide hold and give you that polished look.
14. Jenna Ushkowitz's messy side pony.
Want to mimic a messy ponytail, like Jenna's, that's perfect for any cocktail party?
